impossible to get an appointment at one of the only urgent care clinics is in this city. “call back at 10AM” only to have the line be busy and then at 10:02 the robot man says all appointments are booked for the day. it’s insanely stupid and the worst system i’ve ever dealt with
"You've reached Interior Health..." means the game to get access to health care has become a radio contest another week. They open at 10:00 a.m. with the message "all appointments are booked for the day," which should say, "urgent and primary care for everyone is canceled today." Will I be a lucky caller today? Seven years with no doctor, thousands of calls, and days on hold with the UPCC. I guess they think this works. Not for us, not at all. Accessing health care means carefully moving your phone, hoping a finger doesn't disconnect for some reason. Next, hoping they are convinced you deserve an appointment. The last challenge is surviving the interrogation as nobody knows or takes time to read your file, and you must prove you are in need of health care. Next, getting them to send the requisition or prescription may require another visit or multiple calls. Even if you manage to make their list and get care, if you need a doctor they now punt you back to the call line for another lottery round. If you get good care, you win the health contest. Your prize is starting over at the beginning next time. Congratulations!
It's a broken system. Kamloops needs more help, called right away at 10am and at 10:01am it was fully booked for the day. Very frustrating.
Yesterday I had a great experience here. I called at 10:07 yesterday and left my name on a waiting list. Around 12:30 someone called me and asked about some details, then let me know a nurse would be contacting me. Not long after a nurse called me, I explained what was happening and she was able to fit me in at 715 that night. The doctor I saw was incredible. The amount of care and consideration I received in that short window was impressive. That doctor looked insanely busy but still found time to care, ask questions and listen to my questions. Thank you all for the service during times that are very stressful for us and our Healthcare staff. Remember to be kind to the folks who you rely on when your body isn't the best, the lack of resources is not their fault.
* Edit - somebody kill me before interior health kills me with their system. GG guys. What type of backwards answering system is this in 2025. 🤣🤣🤣 this must be a deliberate joke on the people.... cause how is it even possible lol I never leave a review on anything. But for the first time ever I felt like I was being wronged. Sure, the receptionist is nice and nurses are nice, that's if you ever get to see them to begin with. Appointments are impossible to get. Infact, I think that the fact they provided us with an appointment option is a scam. Because I tried to book an appointment with them by waking up every single day at 9:50am. Called EXACTLY at 10:00am. They were busy. Called back 30 seconds later at 10:01am and they were booked for the day. It was the same EVERY SINGLE DAY for 2 weeks. My condition got worse and I ended up in emergency. This does not make sense. Booked for the day by 10:01am and then they ask to call back at 10:00am tomorrow? Then comes the wait list if there is cancellation and you leave them your name and number. They definitely do not go by who Called first. They pick and choose based on what they personally think is the "most urgent" situation. So if you are bad at describing your condition. Good luck once again. Then comes the doctor. If he sees that you are young and seem healthy from a glance, he will assess you for 10 minutes. Will not ask further questions to find out what is going on and somehow will expect you to know what is wrong with yourself and tries to get it done as soon as possible. Can't spare you 20 minutes of his time while you wait months to see him. Emergency is a hassle of its own because everyone there is visibly way more injured than you. If you have any internal problems, good luck. I'm deeply concerned about the future of Kamloops with this healthcare system. Deeply concerned about my family and the people that stay here. Something definitely needs to change because this is not working. I'm not going to sit here, give them 5 stars, lie and say that they are great. Because they are not. You have a higher chance of ending up at the Emergency before you get primary care. Somebody should definitely connect to interior health and express how horrible it is out here. It discourages people from seeking medical attention until they are either suffering the consequences or they are experiencing Emergency symptoms. Or maybe that's what interior health has planned for us and UPCC is doing a great job. I'm genuinely concerned about the future of the residents of Kamloops. Healthcare is very important.
