Patient Information

New Patients

It's normal to feel a bit nervous about your first visit, so feel free to ask lots of questions and let your practitioner know if you have any concerns at any time. Remember that you can always say "no" to any part of the exam and ask to have an exam ended at any point. You are always in charge of your own body! We will start by discussing your symptoms and medical history to get a good understanding of what the issue is. You may be asked specific questions about bowel, bladder, and sexual function as these are very closely related and can give us clues about your overall pelvic health. We will often begin the assessment portion with some general movement screening and looking at alignment, posture, and breathing, as we want to get an idea of how you move and how your body functions as a whole. Specific pelvic floor assessment may include an internal vaginal and/or rectal exam when indicated and only with your ongoing consent. Internal exams are never mandatory! At Haven, we are also happy to be able to offer rehabilitative ultrasound imaging and surface EMG biofeedback as additional methods of assessing the pelvic floor, at no additional charge. Based on all of the above, we will explain what we think is going on and design an individualized treatment plan that works for you to help you achieve your goals!

Treatment Approach

A custom and personalized approach with individual attention. Takes a holistic approach to pelvic health, recognizing that muscles do not work in isolation but rather as part of a system including the whole body and the whole person. Approaches work with a wider lens and recognize the importance of addressing the whole body and the whole person, not just the pelvic floor, for lasting symptom relief.
